Three Lectures on Automatic Structures
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper grew out of three tutorial lectures on automatic structures given at the Logic Colloquium 2007 in Wroc law (Poland). The paper will follow the outline of the tutorial lectures, supplementing some material along the way. We discuss variants of automatic structures related to several models of computation: word automata, tree automata, Büchi automata, and Rabin automata. Word automata process finite strings, tree automata process finite labeled trees, Büchi automata process infinite strings, and Rabin automata process infinite binary labeled trees. Finite automata are the most commonly known in the general computer science community. Such an automaton reads finite input strings from left to right, making state transitions along the way. Depending on its last state after processing a given string, the automaton either accepts or rejects the input string. Automatic structures are mathematical objects which can be represented by (word, tree, Büchi, or Rabin) automata. The study of properties of automatic structures is a relatively new and very active area of research.

Comparing Lexical Bundles in Hard Science Lectures; A Case of Native and Non-Native University Lecturers
Researchers stated that learning and applying certain set of lexical bundles of native lecturers by non-native lecturers would help students improve their proficiency through incidental vocabulary input. The present study shed light on the lexical bundles in hard science lectures used by Native and Non-native lecturers in international universities with the main purpose of analyzing the structu...
متن کاملStructuring the Unstructured Note: Automatic Organizing and Formatting for lecture notes
“Note taking is an important practice during lectures. With the rapid development of electronic devices such as smart phones, tablets and laptops, digital note-taking has become an option for many students. In the classroom setting, note takers might fail to record clearly organized notes due to limitations of time and devices. Therefore, users often need to manually organize long paragraphs of...
متن کاملAutomatic Segmentation and Summarization of Spoken Lectures
The ever-increasing number of online lectures has created an unprecedented opportunity for distance learning. Most online lectures are presented as unstructured text, audio and/or video files which make it di cult for students to locate relevant lectures and browse through them. In this thesis, we investigated several automatic lecture segmentation and summarization algorithms. Automatic lectur...
متن کاملAspects of Parabolic Invariant Theory
These lectures include a brief discussion of parabolic geometries in general but are concerned primarily with conformal and CR structures. Motivated by the problems of constructing invariant operators on tensor bundles and constructing polynomial invariants of such structures, the lectures will describe basic invariant operators for each of these structures which in a certain sense are analogue...
متن کاملEffects of e-learning, lectures, and role playing on nursing
Background :Nursing education can maintain its dynamic quality when it moves toward innovation and modern methods of teaching and learning. Therefore, teachers are required to employ up to date methods in their teaching plans. This study evaluated the effects of e-learning, lectures, and role playing on nursing students’ learning, retention, and satisfaction. Methods : Sixty nursing student...
